Guitar Making Tool and Material Store:

I have been asked specifically, what tools I use for guitar making, and if it would be possible to compile a list. I will say that after many years of working with wood, I have testing and tossed a lot of tools that didn’t perform as I expected or there was a better tool for the job. Therefore, this is a culled list that I now use of the most recent hand tools and power tools. For your convenience, I have grouped them into categories.

Note that I will be updating this list of tools from time to time, so check it often. Also, if any of you desire to know of a specific tool or would like to make a recommendation to add to the list, please feel free to do so in the comments section.

Japanese Hand Saws:

Dozuki Hand Saw
One of the smoothest cutting saws you’ll ever use, ideal for tight fitting, precision joinery. The 26 TPI x .012″ thick blade of this saw can be quickly changed by a simple tap on the back.

Bakuma Saw 250mm
Bakuma Cross Cut Saws offer an aggressive cutting action which is great for general purpose, quick cutting of both hard and soft woods. 250mm saw has 19 TPI and is 24″ long, blade length of 9-3/4″.

Bakuma Saw 300mm
Bakuma Cross Cut Saws offer an aggressive cutting action which is great for general purpose, quick cutting of both hard and soft woods. 300mm saw has 13 TPI and is 27″ long, blade length of 11-3/4″.

Small Ryoba Saw 210mm
Small Ryoba Saw has 210mm (8-1/4″) cutting edge. Overall length 540mm (21-1/4″), blade tapers from 74mm (2-7/8″) to 92mm (3-5/8″). 10-16 TPI.

Ryoba Saw 300mm
Large Ryoba Saw has 300mm (11-3/4″) cutting edge. Overall length 725mm (28-1/2″), blade tapers from 99mm (3-7/8″) to 125mm (415/16″). 6-9 TPI.

Crosscut Razor Saw 240mm
Crosscut Razor Saw – 240mm: Designed for quick cutting of hardwoods. Blade has 13 TPI, is 240mm (9-7/16″) long and 52-70mm.

Guitar Finishing Products:

Behlen Paste Filler Reducer
A fine blended mixture of silica, pigments, and a suitable vehicle, it provides a smooth, glass-like surface for subsequent finishing coats.

This sealer develops an excellent moisture barrier for the wood substrate, while providing a good base for all Behlen lacquer finishes.
