Not only will we supply you with the plans, but we will supply you with the knowledge on how best to build you next guitar. Check back often as we will be offering lots and lots of plans, jig and template plans and lots of tips and suggestions to keep you from making mistakes and saving lots of time.

Great Plan Accuracy and Detail:
All of our Guitar Building Plans are drawn full scale. All are drawn on my CAD system and are accurate to within 1/1000″. There is meticulous detail on all plans and they can be used to make your templates, guitar forms and pinned up on your wall as a guide for building your guitar. All plans include a top, side and butt view of the guitar.

Fully Dimensioned:
All parts are dimensioned and different parts are all called out. Fret scale is accurate as indicated on the plans and you can make your fret cutting jig from one of these plans. There will also be neck cross-sections given at several locations so you can make neck-shaping templates.

Bridge Layouts, Headstock Layout:
Also there are templates you can use for the bridge layouts for the steel string guitars, and headstock configurations. I would recommend that these plans be reproduced and glue these template layouts over plexiglas or lexan plastic and carefully and accurately cut the templates out for a lifetime luthier’s tool.

All Bracing Fully Detailed:
Brace diagrams are carefully laid out in plan and profile to help you fabricate your top plate braces as accurately as possible. All dimensions are give as well if you wish to transfer the dimensions to the wood.

000 Grand Concert Guitar Plan

000 Concert or Parlor Guitar:
These Guitar Building Plans are for a 000 size or otherwise known as a Parlor or Concert Acoustic Guitar. It makes an ideal older child guitar and young teen guitar as the smaller size is easier for them to get a good grasp on the guitar. The tone is not as “fat” as the dreadnought, which is shown on the plan below but it will give a well-balanced sound.

Great Fingerstyle and Flatpick Guitar:
This would make a great fingerstyle guitar as well as a flatpick guitar. You can alter the depth slightly to give the treble zones more boost and the de-emphasizing the bass a bit. If you prefer there is a layout for a single cutaway for this guitar too. This plan has a 14 fret neck to the body and 25.4″ (645.2mm) scale.

Included (4) Very Detailed Sheets:
These guitar building plans are very detailed, highest quality PDF’s and consist of complete dimensioned plans with bracing plans, sections laterally and longitudinally, detailed bracing layouts and even template diagrams to get you started in making plastic templates for top and back shape, bracing patterns and brace layout and neck and headstock templates. There are (5) large sheets ready to be copied at your local digital printing center.

Guitar Dimensions:
Upper Bout: 275mm (10 13/16″)
Lower Bout: 361mm (14 7/32″)
Body Length: 479mm (18 7/8″)
Depth At Heel: 79.3mm (3 1/8″)
Depth At Butt: 104.7mm (4 1/8″)
Scale Length: 645.2mm (25 13/32″)

Guitar Building Plans For 000 Consist of the Following Sheets:

Sheet 1 – Guitar Plan: Detailed full sized dimensioned plan showing all top bracing, bracing scallops, bridge detail, purfling layout, neck layout with perfectly scaled fret locations, head and tuning machine layouts. Also there is a very detailed specification describing materials, methods of construction and tools required.

Sheet 2 – Guitar Sections: Longitudinal and Lateral Section cuts through the guitar showing internal bracing, lining, side bracing, blocks and neck, included complete dimensions.

Sheet 3 – Guitar Top Bracing Layout: Top and side views of all top braces including dimensions if you need them. The intent is to transfer the brace profile to each brace.

Sheet 4 – Guitar Back Plate & Braces:
Detailed Back Plate, plus all back place braces are shown in plan and elevation view, including the back arch for each brace. Each brace in fully dimensioned.

Why Digital Downloads?

The plans are electronic in PDF format so they can be printed by the customer at the printer location of their choice. For instance, many customers have used Kinkos or Office Max. I would prefer to use the services of a commercial digital printer company. They have very large printers that can very easily handle these sheets and print them in under a minute. In my architectural practice, I have printed hundreds of thousands of plans like this. They would be listed in the phone directory under digital printers or even blueprints – although that term is not used any longer.

Why don’t we send out hard copies? Good question. My reasoning is that we market plans all over the world through the internet with a great many plans going to Europe, South America, and China. Digital plans are delivered instantaneously and when you print them they will be full-sizes, no fold marks and you can get multiple copies or even 50% sized plans that are very useful for reference or even a part of a plan, say a headstock that can be printed on any letter sized printer.

So that is the long answer and I think you will be very impressed with the full-sized versions. BTW when you bring them to the printer, they should default to the full-size automatically on their printing equipment.

Electronic Instant Download:
All Guitar Building Plans are available in pdf format. Plans are $13.49 for the pdf files of the guitar plans.

All guitar building plans can be ordered through our secure server and of course all information will be secure and confidential. Upon ordering you will be given an email for immediate downloading of the plans through a link directly to the ftp server. No special hardware required.

You will have 48 hours to download your digital copies. There are (4) files for each guitar plan all files total about 2.5MB – 3.5MB, so download times are very quick, even on a 56K modem. We are sure you will be very pleased with the level of detail and quality of these drawings.

All Plans Are in Both Millimeters AND Inches/Fractional Inches:
All Guitar Building Plans are available in both millimeter measurements and inches/fractional inches. Both are clearly shown in an over/under the dimension line style, so you can pick which measurement system you would like to use, or use both!

Guitar Template Sets are now available for each of our guitar plans. I would recommend that these template plans be reproduced and glue these template layouts over plexiglas or lexan plastic and carefully and accurately cut the templates out for a lifetime luthier’s tool.

Each Template Set will include the following templates:

Top Bracing Layout Template: This Template locates each brace and brace end, eliminating any mis-alignment of baces, sound-hole or reinforcing strips.

Fret Layout Template: All frets laid out and dimensioned ready for you to load into a fret template jig or hand cut on your own.

Headpiece Template: for headpiece contour and accurate tuning machine layouts.

Neck Layout Template: Use this for easily roughing out your neck, heel, and neck joints, plus the foot on the Classical Guitar.

Side Contour Template: This is worth the price of the set alone! This side contour can be cut out and laid directly on your guitar sides and you can automatically cut the correct back arch and taper on your sides without trial and error.

    Hello,

I work for a company that builds cabinets for executive jet interiors. We use a CNC to cut most of our cabinet parts. I would like to know if it would be possible to get guitar plans in AutoCad instead of PDF format so I can have some templates CNC’ed instead of cutting them by hand.

    Thanks,

    Graeme.

  2. David Says:

    Hi Graeme,

I have worked with CAD systems for over 20 years now and as the owner of an architectural company, I have been asked by numerous clients if they could have either a dxf or a dwg version of their building drawings. Unfortunately, when I give out the files in these formats, I am giving away all of the raw drawing files, which are the essence of the design and drawings themselves. This would allow individuals to upload these files into any CAD program and save it as their own file. This not only is a copyright infringement, but it gives away a lot of hard work. I understand too, that in most instances this would not be a problem and the way around this with my architectural clients was to have them sign a elaborate form not to use the file for any other purpose than internal use.

Therefore, I have decided to make these guitar plans and jig plans available only in pdf format. I’m sorry I can’t give you the raw data files and I hope you understand.

    Thanks for the inquiry though.
    David

    Hi,

I tried to download several of your free plans, but none of the links work. It opens a new window with the same page.

    Thanks for your help.

    Ron

  4. David Says:

    Ron,

I have tried all the links and they do work for me. I tried in both Safari and Firefox. I do not have I.E.. Perhaps there is a setting in your browser that prevents this? Not sure. What browser are you using and what is your computer platform?

If anyone else has this problem i would appreciate knowing it. Also if you do and you want a plan and are having trouble downloading it just tell me what you desire and i’ll email them to you directly.

    Sincerely
    David

  5. Dave Says:

    Hello,

I recently bought and downloaded the OOO-28VS plans. They look very good and after printing parts in full scale, they measure exactly to the dimensions provided.

First question, when I scale the peghead thickness, it measures only 7/16″ which seem small for any slot head tuners that I can find for a 12 fret steel string.

Second question, plans indicate 1.75″ fretboard width at the nut, but scales to 1.875″ Not a problem because I like a little wider fretboard. I the 1.875″ correct??

    Thanks
    Dave

Can you provide me some insight.

  6. David Says:

    Hi Dave

The spec for the 000-28VS is 1-13/16″ which would be about 46mm. Yes I like a wider neck as well. I’m glad you discover that peghead thickness. The thickness of the peghead should be approx 19mm or 3/4″ so you could install vintage tuners on the guitar. They tend to be between 17 and 18mm. I will get a revised drawing together for you of the peghead and email it over to you.

    Thanks.
    David
